Derry City's Conor Clifford focused on staying sharp

It has now been nine weeks since the last round of League of Ireland fixtures and it's very difficult to tell at this stage just how many more it may be until supporters are once again able to see their team in action.

Clubs have been hit hard in those intervening weeks and it has been difficult too for players given the uncertainty about when the season will resume.

All of them however are continuing to work hard in the knowledge that the situation could change very quickly.

Derry City midfielder Conor Clifford certainly falls into that category, and the 28-year old was back in his local park in Palmerstown this week, going through his paces.

"We've all got individual fitness plans and it's important that we're ready to go as soon as we get the nod," he admitted.

"It's a very mixed programme and each day is different. Training includes both long runs and sprints and this area is perfect for that.

"The weather has been very kind so far but the focus is on keeping as sharp as possible.

"Like everyone else I'm looking forward to getting back training and playing again, whenever that may be. In the meantime the hard work continues to make sure I'm ready when that happens."
