Derry man to stand trial on historic sex offence charges

A 57-year-old man is to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of historic sex offences.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with 14 sex offences allegedly committed between March 1971 and March 1977.

The include indecent assault on a male, gross indecency and aiding and abetting indecent assault and gross indecency.

These allegations all relate to one complainant.

The 57-year-old is further charged with indecently assaulting a second complainant between August 1980 and August 1984.

Derry Magistrates Court heard both complainants are related to the defendant.

The defendant declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence on his own behalf.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley accepted there is a case for his client to answer.

The defendant was released on his own bail of £500 to appear in court for arraignment on April 5.
