Derry's E.Y.C. bid shortlisted

The announcement was made on the official European Youth Capital website.

Thirteen European cities had initially submitted bids but after Friday’s decision by the jury only five cities, including Derry and Strabane, remain.

Derry and Strabane will now have to see off competition from Amiens (France); Manchester; Novi Sad (Serbia) and Perugia (Italy).

Derry and Strabane will now have two months to submit an extensive programme of youth-related cultural, social and political events and activities, and outline a partnership between the municipality and the city’s young people to create, plan, and run the E.Y.C. year.

In the next round of the competition, Derry and Strabane will submit a longer, more detailed application, which will be assessed by the high-level jury and a focus group of young people. They will make revisions based on this feedback, submit their final applications in October, and after a final jury meeting, the winner of the E.Y.C. 2019 title will be announced at the European Youth Forum’s Council of Members in November 2016.
