Councillor warns work on major refurbishment could be forced to stop due to vandals

A Derry councillor has warned contractors may be forced to stop work on a major refurbishment programme in Creggan if a spate of vandalism continues.

Sinn Féin Councillor Emma McGinley said: "Unfortunately, I have been contacted to report yet more damage to the homes that are being refurbished in Creggan Heights.

"There have been a number of incidents in recent weeks and the contractor involved have informed community representatives that their contractors will potentially have to stop work if these continue.

"We need to remember that this scheme is about investing in local people's homes so I would appeal to those involved to think about the impact of their actions.

"We have all fought long and hard to secure this £12.4 million investment into Creggan Heights and I don't want to see that jeopardised because of the misguided actions of a few people.

"Please speak with your children and young people and ensure they're not involved."
