Emergency services and river rescue charity tasked to incident in Derry

A number of emergency services responded to an incident at the River Foyle in the early hours of this morning which has now been classified as a search and recovery operation.

The PSNI tasked Foyle Search and Rescue to the incident at 1.44 a.m. this morning.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Our Emergency Response Teams were assisted by the Northern Ireland Fire Service, Irish Coastguard, Coleraine Coastguard and soon after by the Irish Coastguard Helicopter.

"Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service remained on standby during the incident. Our Teams were stood down at 06:00hrs with the incident now classed as a search and recovery operation."
