Bull Park litter louts told to bin it or take it home

A popular Derry park was treated like an open air dump by a minority of users over recent days prompting one local councillor to tell those responsible to be more considerate.

“Bin it or take it home,” was the plea from Sinn Féin Councillor Patricia Logue to those who have been leaving behind rubbish in Jon Clifford-Bull Park.

She spoke out after a number of constituents claimed that the park at Marlborough Terrace had been left in a terrible state.

Councillor Logue said: “I was contacted by regular users of the park concerned that in recent days there seems to be an ever-increasing number of plastic bottles being left strewn across green spaces. There is absolutely no excuse for this as there are a number of rubbish bins in the park and even if people didn’t use the bins, they could take their rubbish home with them.”

The park, which was renamed in honour of the late legendary Tristar Boys’ football club founder Jon ‘Ugg’ Clifford a number of years ago, has been popular with generations of young people over the years.

Colr. Logue said it was important people show a bit of respect for other users by clearing up after them.

“This is a great facility right in the heart of the community and the last thing we want to see is it becoming shabby and unkempt and leaving a mess for council workers to clean up. Green spaces are at a premium across our city and we need to ensure that we all take care of them.”
