Derry and Strabane tops pile for traffic calming schemes (15)

Fifteen traffic calming schemes have been introduced in Derry and Strabane over the past five years - more than any other district council area.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon, releasing details of the number of new schemes in response to an Assembly Question, revealed far more have been completed here than anywhere else.

Seven traffic calming schemes were completed in Derry and Strabane in 2015/16, while there were two completed in 2017/18 and three in both 2018/19 and 2019/20.

In Lisburn and Castlereagh, which had the second highest number of road safety schemes, there were 10.

Other council areas had considerably fewer schemes implemented: Mid Ulster (9), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (8), Newry, Mourne and Down (8), Belfast (6), Causeway Coast and Glens (5), Mid and East Antrim (3), Ards and North Down (3), Antrim and Newtownabbey (2) and Fermanagh and Omagh (1).
