Rainbow Child & Family Centre have secured the services of the Easter Bunny to visit streets across Galliagh this week, armed with basketfuls of Cream Eggs and treats for all the good boys and girls who are staying indoors.

Elaine Young from the Rainbow Centre said that they would normally have had a fun day on Easter Saturday, but because children couldn’t come to them this year, they thought they’d get the Easter Bunny to visit the children instead.

And the response has been phenomenal. “It’s absolutely great, it’s putting a smile on kids’ faces at a time when they are doing so well at staying in,” Elaine said.

“This is a chance for them to see the Easter Bunny waving to them and delivering a cream egg on their garden wall or their doorstep.”

Different streets were being notified of the Easter Bunny’s visits in advance on the centre’s Facebook page throughout this week. And while they unable to visit every street in the area this year, Rainbow has also been running Easter art and children’s home bingo competitions.

Elaine said she was delighted to receive a donation of £30 worth of sweets to distribute from big-hearted staff at the Spar in Galliagh .

“There’s a great community spirit here and this is a small thing we are doing but it is having a big impact.

“It’s so rewarding to see the smiles on faces, even local pensioners who are coming out to wave,” Elaine said.
