Frustration over lack of progress on Bogside residents’ parking scheme with Derry proposals to be informed by Belfast outcomes

Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Karen Mullan has said it is vital that a solution is found to problems around parking in the Bogside.

She was speaking as it emerged that nothing will happen with proposals in Derry until the outcome of similar schemes in Belfast are known.

She said: “It’s simply not good enough that this scheme still hasn’t happened.

“It’s alarming that I have been told by officials no scheme will take place in Derry until the Department for Infrastructure gets its findings from similar schemes in Belfast.

“The Minister needs to step up to the mark and get this scheme across the line.

“As part of a consultation in 2019 we made a number of submissions on the residents’ parking scheme proposals. I believe all of the issues could have been ironed out and easily resolved to allow the scheme to go ahead without delay.”

Last year DfI announced a fresh consultation on a residents’ parking scheme for the Bogside would be required.

A previously proposed scheme in the Rossville Street area attracted a significant level of objections.
