Sinn Féin Group Leader on Derry and Strabane Council Sandra Duffy had submitted a formal request for council buildings to be illuminated to mark nine weeks since young Noah Donohoe had gone missing.

Mayor Brian Tierney earlier today confirmed that the Tinnies landmark art installation in Strabane would be illuminated in Noah’s memory, and it has now been confirmed that the Guildhall Clock will also turn blue on both Saturday and Sunday.

Noah Donohoe disappeared in North Belfast in June, sparking a huge search. He was travelling to Cave Hill country park to meet friends on the day he vanished. Tragically his body was later found in a storm drain.

The 14-year-old’s mother Fiona, who comes from Strabane, has launched a public appeal to find out what happened to her son. She has set up dedicated pages on Twitter and Facebook, called MyNoah Donohoe, as she seeks answers about his disappearance and death.

Colr. Duffy said: “I am very pleased to have received confirmation that the Guildhall clock is to be illuminated blue this Saturday and Sunday to mark nine weeks since young Noah Donohoe had gone missing. It’s very important that this happens as it will create awareness around the ongoing appeal for information on the death of Noah. We will continue to support Fiona Donohoe and the family in their search for the truth about the tragic death of Noah.

“The death of Noah Donohoe shocked people everywhere and left many heartbroken, least not the family and friends of Noah. I would appeal to anyone with any evidence or information in respect of Noah’s disappearance to bring this immediately to the PSNI, [email protected], Fiona Donohoe’s Solicitor, Niall Murphy or Relatives for Justice.”

Mayor Tierney said the gesture this weekend would show the Donohoe family that the people of Derry and Strabane are with them as they try to piece together the events following Noah’s disappearance.

“This is every parent’s worst nightmare and the fact that Noah’s family are left with so many unanswered questions just adds to the sadness of this terrible tragedy,” he stressed. “By lighting the Tinnies up blue for ‘Remembering Noah’ this weekend in his mum Fiona’s home town of Strabane we will show the family that we stand firmly with them in their quest for truth and raise awareness of their campaign.

“I would like everyone to think of Fiona and the Donohoe family this weekend, and I want to personally stress my own support for them as they seek the answers they need to give them some comfort following Noah’s tragic death.”
