Locations of confirmed cases of COVID19 in Northern Ireland released

Health authorities in Northern Ireland have now released a breakdown of where coronavirus cases are occurring and the numbers of positive tests in each area.

New more detailed data was shared last night by the Department of Health, following widespread concerns among local people that they had no information about the situation in their area.

It has now been confirmed that there have been between five and 10 confirmed cases of COVID19 in Derry City & Strabane District Council area to date.

A new GP led CoVID19 assessment unit for the Western Trust has opened at the Altnagelvin Hospital site this morning (Wednesday).

People will have to be referred by their own GP and cannot just turn up at the centre.

In Causeway Coast and Glens Council area, which includes Limavady, there have been between one and five confirmed cases.

Belfast meanwhile has seen the most cases, with between 40-60 people testing positive.

To date the Western Health and Social Care Trust has seen the fewest tests conducted among the five Trusts in Northern Ireland, with 298 completed.

The total number of new positive cases increased yesterday by 24, taking the total to 172.

The total number of tests completed to date is just shy of 3,000 with the vast majority of people testing negative.

A total of 59 people aged between 0 and 44 are now known to have coronavirus in the north, and a further 59 cases have been diagnosed in people aged 45 to 69. A further 50 people confirmed with the virus are aged 70 and over.

96 of the confirmed cases are male and 76 female.
