'Modest' extension to City of Derry Airport green-lit
Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee has greenlit a “modest” extension to City of Derry Airport.
At September’s Committee meeting members unanimously approved the plans for a single-storey, rear extension, to facilitate the installation of a new x-ray machine and conveyor built to “help the airport with its day-to-day running,” a Planning Officer said.
“The building is bound to the front with a large car parking area, and to the rear the building is bound by the airport runway. The proposed development is located on the runway side of the site. It’s a modest upgrade to the airport.”
The Officer said Environmental Health, the Civil Aviation Authority, and NIEA’s Land and Groundwater Team were consulted, with none raising objections, while there were no representations or objections received.

Members voted unanimously in favour.
City of Derry Airport has routes to London (Heathrow) with international connections, as well as to Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow. A new Dublin route is scheduled to commence soon.
