Movement on Meenan Square shopsapplication and business case

The Foyle MLA said: “I welcome the news that a planning application has been submitted for preparatory work for the future development of the Meenan Square site. I also understand that the Urban Villages initiative is currently developing a business case for this regeneration project. It will include options for a mixed-use development that will offer a range of facilities for the benefit of the community.”

The MLA said progress on the long-derelict site in the heart of the Bogside will be warmly welcomed by the local community.

“It’s vital that they continue to be fully involved in whatever consultation is to take place, so we get this right from the outset. I think it’s important that plans for this project are moved forward as speedily as possible. Local people have waited long enough to see this scar site on the gateway into the Bogside being redeveloped.”
