Nine new coronavirus cases confirmed in Northern Ireland

A total of nine new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Northern Ireland since yesterday, bringing the total number of 86.

More detailed information on geographical location of where cases are in Northern Ireland are occurring and the demographics of those who contracted the virus are expected to be released from next week.

As of 2pm on Friday 20 March, the total number of tests completed in Northern Ireland is 1,816.

However the Health Minister Robin Swann yesterday confirmed that testing is soon to be ramped up to around 800 tests per day, which is expected to result in a significant rise in the number of confirmed cases.

To date, one person who tested positive has sadly died.

The Department of Health has advised: “People with mild symptoms - new persistent cough and/or fever - should stay at home and self-isolate.

“They will not require testing and will not therefore be included in testing totals.”
