Northern Ireland Electricity has told the Journal that over 35,000 customers were affected when a high voltage electricity network failure led to the electricity black out across Derry today.

Northern Ireland Electricity has told the Journal that over 35,000 customers were affected when a high voltage electricity network failure led to the electricity black out across Derry today.

Power has been restored 37 minutes after the outage affected homes, businesses and organisations right across the city.

NIE confirmed the transmission fault occurred at 2.28pm and that they had been able to fix the problem remotely. Power was restored at 3.05pm.

The NIE Networks’ customer helpline 03457 643 643 is open 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday.

It’s customer service team can answer any questions people may have.

The helpline is open 24 hours to report a loss of electricity supply.
