Planning permission granted for asphalt plant near Donegal-Derry border

It was granted, with 12 conditions, by the council on Friday.

The application had attracted much debate and 1,800 signatures were added to a petition which urged the council not to grant permission for it.

There were 128 submissions associated with the application.

At last month’s Inishowen Municipal District meeting meanwhile, Donegal County Councillor Jack Murray asked that the council give full and thorough consideration ‘to the voices and concerns heard by residents in Inishowen, given the scale of concern’.

Councillor Terry Crossan said he was being contacted up to three times a day by residents on the matter.

It is understood to have been previously pointed out by an agent for the company meanwhile that regulations require all modern Asphalt plants to be designed to comply with Local/ National and European standards and that the process does not involve extraction of material from the site.

The application was due to be finalised last month, however the councils sought a notice of publication following the receipt of significant additional data, including environmental information, on March 5.
