Police speed detection operations following concerns from residents

Police in Derry have been undertaking speed detection operations in the city this week following concerns raised by residents in various different areas.

The PSNI said officers from Foyleside and The Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted the road safety operation on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said that this was “following concerns raised by members of our community in relation to the manner of driving and excess speed of some drivers in the area”.

The spokesperson added: “As part of this operation we conducted a number of vehicle checkpoints and speed checks. We also had officers out on bicycles in the Ballymagroarty, Brandywell and city centre areas.

“Unfortunately some people are still not driving within the speed limits and as a result five tickets were issued for excess speed (£60 and three penalty points) as well as one Endorsable Fixed Penalty Ticket (£200 and six penalty points) issued for No Insurance,” the spokesperson also confirmed following the operation.
