Ramadan Fast Challenge invite to raise funds for Foyle Foodbank
Ramadan began last week and will run until late May and the Muslim community locally are hoping to emulate the success of previous challenges, which have seen them raise thousands of pounds for the Foodbank and other local chairities.
While this year presents a unique challenge due to the COVID-19 restrictions on movement and the community being unable to gather together for prayer and breaking of the fast, the North West Islamic Association decided to go ahead with the challenge because of the growing need in the wider community for the Foodbank’s services.

The Muslim community traditionally fast from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadan, and during this time consider those less fortunate and who may be suffering from hunger. Dr Zahid Bahli, Chair of the North West Islamic Association, told the ‘Journal’ they would love other people in the wider community to take part in the challenge by getting other to sponsor them while fasting for a period of time, even for a few hours, to help the Foodbank.
