EYC19 - Wear it, Snap it, Tag it...

Anyone entering the competition will be in with a chance of winning a Mini iPad or concert tickets to the Club MTV gig in September.

Last month the Council took a major step forward when it was successful in being shortlisted to one of five finalists in the running for the prestigious title and in an effort to encourage more people to get involved by launching the ‘Wear It - Snap It - Tag It’ competition.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Elisha McCallion is calling on young people aged between 15 and 24 to help put a face to EYC19 by getting involved and showing their support by wearing the EYC19 beanie hat, taking a photograph of you and your role model or the place you love most and tagging it on their social media platforms using the social media handles (Facebook @EYC19; Twitter @EYC2019; Instagram @EYC2019).

Speaking at the launch, which was held at a major youth engagement workshop at the Guildhall this week, the Mayor says:

“This is a fun and innovative way of getting young people to get involved and to spread the word about the work we are doing on the next stage of the process for EYC status. It is our way of engaging with young people and inviting them to take photos of themselves wearing our EYC beanie hats at one of their favourite locations – maybe at their local park or coffee shop, or along with their role models such as their teacher, youth leader or family member and sending it to us via social media on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.”

EYC branded beanie hats are being distributed to schools across the Council area over the coming weeks and are available at local leisure centres and community centres in an effort to reach as many young people as possible.

Oonagh McGillion, Director of Legacy with Derry City and Strabane District Council says as well as encouraging young people to sign up to EYC19, the competition is aimed at showcasing local creativity, originality and inspiration.

“We want to get our youths involved by inviting them to come up with some creative and fun ideas as part of our Wear It- Snap It-Tag It competition. It’s a fun way of getting them to use their imagination and help showcase everything that is good about our young people and the city and district we live in and be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes such as a mini iPad, tickets for the MTV Club gig at Ebrington and a £50 voucher,” she added.
