The school’s Eco Council was established eight years ago and has approximately 10 members from classes P3-P7.

Since it was established, students have worked hard to make their environment as healthy and efficient as possible.

The school has achieved Eco Flag status thanks to students implementing as many efficiency savings as possible through a number of simple measures, such as recycling, switching off lights and closing doors. Last month, the Eco Council donned their high visibility yellow vests to participate in the ‘2016 Big Spring Clean’.

Pupils carried out a litter pick with employees of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

Efforts concentrated on an area beside Greysteel Playgroup and Community Centre, and along the roadside back to the school.

Students had a productive time, and collected two bags of rubbish and half a bag, which could be recycled.

The school says it has plans for a number of initiatives in coming weeks to support its healthy living initiative, including establishing a fruit stall at the school, alongside plans to work on their garden.

The school is also planning to participate in the Walk to School week later this month, where pupils can either walk or cycle to school.
