Fire extinguished at old Arntz factory in Derry; 'lucky nobody was hurt' say PSNI

The PSNI have said it's lucky no-one was hurt after a fire was ignited at the old Arntz factory.

The fire service extinguished the fire on Sunday.

The PSNI said young people were witnessed running from the site when the emergency services arrived at the scene.

"Do you know where your children are? Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service had to turn out to a factory on fire in the Pennyburn area of the city tonight.

"A group of young teenagers were seen running from the site as NIFRS arrived," said the PSNI.

Officers at Strand Road said the practice was extremely dangerous and asked people to desist.

"Luckily this time our good colleagues in the fire service put it out before the structure was damaged. Luckily this time nobody was hurt. People aren't lucky forever.

"In the middle of a pandemic vital resources are being deployed to these incidents, putting a strain on all emergency services and, had this been worse, the NHS," the force said.
