A group of young people set fire to the traffic lights on Wednesday evening, according to Colr. Hassan.

“A number of youths set fire to the traffic lights and caused problems for road users. This is the fourth time these lights have been set on fire in the last 12 months and many believe it is the same group who carried this out,” said Colr. Hassan.

Colr. Hassan went on to thank several community workers who have attempted to stop the traffic lights from being vandalised.

“The traffic lights provide safety for pedestrians, particularly children who go to the local schools.

“This is also a major road which services many housing developments and carries a high volume of traffic.”

Colr. Hassan added: “I would like to thank the intervention work carried out by community workers in preventing some young people from causing serious damage to the traffic lights and the subsequent problems this would have caused for road users.”
