Foyle Search and Rescue rescued two people from water last night

Just before 8 p.m. the Police Service of Northern Ireland contacted FSR by phone with reports of a person having entered the water. Two boats and a land crew responded from the Prehen Base.

On arrival at the reported location a male was observed in the river and was rescued. The male was removed to land and treated for early onset of hypothermia onshore by an advanced paramedic who responded in an rapid response vehicle, the male was transferred to an ambulance and taken to hospital.

At 8.30 p.m. a member of the Public contacted FSR Base by phone with concerns for a female who appeared to be in a distressed state at a location in close proximity to the river.

Boat crew volunteers attending training at the base were dispatched as second Land crew by FSR Pager co ordinator who was in the process of dealing with the initial call out with a second boat re assigned to assist with safety cover.

On arrival of land crew at the scene FSR Volunteers observed the distressed female and after a period of communication ensured she was removed to a designated place of safety.

At 02:01hrs on Wednesday 8th June FSRs Emergency Response Team were paged by the Police Service of Northern Ireland to reports of a person having entered the water.

Pager Co ordinator dispatched a land crew plus one boat to the area. En route to the location the PSNI reported to FSR crews that the person had self rescued to a platform located near the river bank. Land & Boat crew commenced a search & located a male successfully removing him to safety ashore. He was assessed, treated for cold water shock and transferred to an Ambulance that took him to Hospital.
