A12-week consultation period is currently under way which aims to gather feedback from local people regarding the car park and the proposals being made by Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Director of Business and Culture at DCSDC, Stephen Gillespie, speaking about the decision, said: “As of April 1, 2015, local Councils in Northern Ireland inherited the power of off-street car parking and, as such, now have a statutory obligation to ensure any Council owned property being used as an off-street car park is fit for purpose and in accordance with the off street parking order for Northern Ireland.

“Before this car park becomes an official off-street car park, we’re going above and beyond our obligation of a 21 day notice period by giving members of the public 12 weeks to feed through their input. This will ensure we can take all of the comments on board before we implement pricing structures and the types of services that need to be available at this location to ensure we are best serving our ratepayers and wider stakeholders.”

Details of the car park can be obtained by visiting the Strand Road, Derry or Derry Road, Strabane Council offices. Alternatively you can send any feedback to: [email protected].
