Acknowledging that the North West still has a high rate of domestic violence incidents, Foyle Women’s Aid Director, Marie Brown, said the organisation had achieved a lot, but that more work remains to be done.

“It was only when we began to plan this year and look at all the milestones along the way that we realised how much we have achieved locally and regionally on behalf of women and children affected by domestic abuse,” she added.

“Whilst we still have a long way to go, it is important to take stock of all that has been achieved and thank the individuals, communities and organisations who have supported the work that we do – and continue to do so.”

The organisation have this week revealed an exciting calendar of events to mark the anniversary including a Fashion Show, a Strictly Come Dancing, a Summer Fete, Thrill the World and a fun Duck Race culminating in a Conference and Gala Dinner in the Guildhall in September.

A 40th celebration candle set has been created, in conjunction with Lila’s Craft and Candles, called ‘Meditation and Invigorating’ and is on sale at £15 from Pathways, 24 Pump Street.

All proceeds from the sale of the candles, and from all events throughout the year, go towards helping women and children affected by domestic abuse.
