The life-saving piece of equipment, kept at Culbertsons Food Store in Limavady, was bought thanks to a fundraising campaign by the local community.

The defibrillator cost hundreds of pounds and was kept outside the premises, attached to the wall, for use in need of emergency outside business hours.

However, manager Diane McCurry was devastated when she arrived for work on Thursday to discover the machine had been snatched.

Fortunately, however, a member of the public found the defibrillator in the Main Street area of the town around midnight on Wednesday and handed it into the police.

The machine is now back where it belongs at Culbertsons on Irish Green Street.

“We want people to be aware that it had been stolen. This is a life-saving piece of equipment and it was the community who raised the money to buy it. It’s there for community use after we close.

Diane hopes there won’t be a repeat of the incident.

“The worst of it is, imagine if someone had of needed it last night?” she added.
