Heart docs hail peer Dr McNeill who will act as Irish Cardiology Society President for next two years
Derry cardiologist Dr Albert McNeill is looking forward to hosting the Irish Cardiac Society's (ICS) annual conference to the city next year after receiving the honour of being appointed President of the organisation.
Dr McNeill, who has helped save the lives of many heart attack and heart disease sufferers in the North West, will host leading cardiologists from across the globe, including the President of the American Cardiology Society and the British Cardio Vascular Society President, at the society’s annual event in the city next October.
A country man, by his own admission Dr McNeill has worked his way from his Ballymena origins, “around that neck of the woods,” across Europe to settle in Altnagelvin, to dedicate a passionate career towards progressing cardiology in the west of Ireland.
He’ll be President of the ICS for the next two years.
Dr Albert McNeill said: “It is an honour to be recognised by my Cardiology peers from across Ireland, North & South. “It really is a testimony and credit to my colleagues and I in the Western Health and Social Care Trust and our advancements in Cardiology care, especially in more rural areas. I wish to publically thank the Irish Cardiac Society, my family and all my colleagues past and present.
“I look forward to welcoming all members to the annual conference in Derry next year.”
He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist in Altnagelvin Hospital in 1992 and is currently Lead Clinician for Cardiology in the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
In his role as Lead Clinician for Cardiology he has managed the development of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) at Altnagelvin. He is married to Frances, who is a pharmacist and has three children, one of whom is a junior doctor.
