Jamie's Journie celebrates new website launch

The event was held to launch a new website to support young people and their families through their cancer diagnosis and to celebrate the success of the organisation.

Jamie’s Journie was launched on Facebook just ten months ago by 16-year-old Jamie Harkin to give children with cancer a voice. Jamie was diagnosed with cancer when he was just 12 years old and has been left with lifelong conditions as a result of his treatment.

Jamie’s Journie now supports so many children and their families the website was needed to reach out to them all.

The website has been designed and developed by Jamie and his friend, James Nangle.

To celebrate the launch of the site, more than 100 children were turned into little superheroes and allowed to dance the night away at a function in the city hotel.

Each child was given a specially designed cape as they entered the Easter wonderland created by local crafters.

They also received gifts, were entertained by Parky the magician before taking to the dancefloor for the disco.

In memory of the Daniels and McGrotty families who lost their lives in the Buncrana pier tragedy, 100 balloons were released from the Peace Bridge.

During the event, Jamie also launched ‘Sorcha’s Surprises’ in honour of local woman Sorcha Glenn who died from cancer.

This will see a child receive a VIP trip from the charity.

The first of these was Callum Barr who was taken to this week’s Republic of Ireland match and accommodated overnight.

Unfortunately during the launch, Jamie had to be taken to hospital and is currently receiving treatment in the Sperrin Unit of Altnagelvin Hospital.
