Letterkenny Court: Man pleads guilty to assault causing serious harm

A man has pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm to another man in Carndonagh in 2014.

Lee Mitchell, with an address at Windmill View, Letterkenny appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The court heard he is currently in custody in Castlerea Prison.

Mitchell spoke only to plead guilty to assault causing serious harm to Patrick McLaughlin on 30th May, 2014 at 1, Ard Bhride, Carndonagh.

Barrister Peter Nolan asked Judge John O’Hagan for the case to be adjourned for the preparation of a probation and welfare report.

He added that his client has a “long and troubled psychiatric” history and an “ongoing” drug dependancy. He asked for a psychiatrist’s report and a report on drugs tests on Mitchell. Judge John O’Hagan ordered the reports be prepared and remanded Mitchell in custody until April.

He also invited Mr McLaughlin to prepare a victim impact statement.
