Limavady collision: Man left with '˜life changing' injuries

A Magilligan man has been left with 'serious and life-changing injuries' following a weekend crash in Limavady.

Paul Butcher, originally from Magilligan, was seriously injured after a collision in Limavady on Saturday afternoon.

The collision, involving a car and motorcycle, occurred on the Ballyquin Road, Limavady, just before 2.45pm on Saturday 21 May.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Just before 2.45pm, police received a report of the rtc involving a car and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are described as serious and life changing.

“The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment for shock.

“The Ballyquin Road was closed to traffic between Roemill Road and Glengiven Avenue. It re-opened just before 11.30pm.”

SDLP MLA Gerry Mullan, a second cousin of Mr Butcher, said: “The community is devastated by the news of Paul’s tragic accident and are praying for his recovery.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul and his family.”

Constable Gregg Chambers said: “I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this RTC to contact Limavady Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.”

The Butcher family have requested privacy at this time.
