Limavady teens hail '˜best project ever'

Teens, aged 13 to 17 and from the Glens estate in the town, enjoyed the programme so much one participant told tutors “this was the best project we have ever done”.

A spokesperson explained the purpose of the programme - funded by the Youth Justice Agency - was “to target young people at most risk of offending”.

For the programme, the teens wnt along to the Men’s Shed on Roemill Road in Limavady, which gives men an opportunity to learn new skills. It was established in Limavady over a year ago.

“The programme involved the young people in making their own bench at the Men’s Shed in Limavady, as well as planters to give out to people in their community,” said the spokesperson.

The young people also completed a Level 2 Open College Network qualification in Law and Order.

Michelle Friel, Youth Outreach worker for the Education Authority Youth Service, helped deliver the programme.

“The young people really enjoyed the programme and embraced the different methods of learning superbly,” said Ms Friel.

Project Coordinator of The Glens Community Association, Tina McCloskey praised the young people on all their hard work. One participant said “this was the best project we have ever done”.
