McGuinness calls on Brokenshire to release Tony Taylor
Sinn Fein MLA for Foyle and deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, has called upon Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, James Brokenshire, to release Derry republican, Tony Taylor, from prison immediately.
Mr. Taylor, a local spokesperson for Republican Network for Unity (R.N.U.), was returned to prison earlier this year after then Secretary of State, Theresa Villiers, revoked his licence.
“Tony Taylor was returned to prison on the word of previous British Secretary of State Theresa Villiers without any evidence being presented,” said Mr. McGuinness.
“The arrest and imprisonment without recourse to due process is a practice that is totally unacceptable and needs to end immediately.”
Mr. McGuinness said he intended to discuss the matter with the Mr. Brokenshire when he meets him.
“I will be raising the issue with new British Secretary of State James Brokenshire and demanding that Tony Taylor is either released immediately or brought before a court and given due process.”
