Moving statues and ancestor hunts in Waterside Voices

The latest edition of the popular community magazine '˜Waterside Voices' is now in the shops. The Spring issue contains a couple of articles from Ken McCormack. In the first of these '˜Derry's Moving Statue' he relates the fascinating life of John Laurence, educated at Foyle College, who became the Viceroy of India. He also writes about Gilfillian's Weird Secret.

Michael Sharkey goes back to Fountain Hill as he traces ancestors living there 100 years ago. And Joan Connor introduces her poetry and a poignant memory from the 1940s of her first day at work, entitled ‘Off to Work.’ Tom Agnew traces his life to becoming an ‘Artist Potter,’ and John F McCartney remembers fond memories of a dog called Bruce.

There are also articles on education from John Lynch, the Quay by Alfred Hutchinson and Isobel Arbuckle recalls happy days playing. Copies are available in Waterside newsagents.
