National Television Awards: The Chase brings more success for Derry producer

A popular TV quiz show produced by a company set up by a Derry man has picked up a prestigious National Television Award;.

Hosted by Bradley Walsh, and recently celebrating its 500th episode, The Chase sees four contestants work as a team answering general knowledge questions against the clock – and playing a strategic game to win themselves a potential prize pot worth thousands of pounds. That is, only if they stay one step ahead of ‘The Chaser’, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them winning at all costs.

The popular daytime TV show won the daytime TV award and was announced by Good Morning Britain duo Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid. It is produced for Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Founded by Creative Managing Director Michael Kelpie, from Derry, Potato is home to a number of successful formats including The Chase (ITV), The Big Reunion (ITV2), Four Weddings (Sky Living), Autopsy: the Final Hours Of ... (Five) and I Never Knew That About Britain (ITV).

Accepting the award with host, Bradley Walsh, Mr Kelpie said The Chase is celebrating its 1000th episode.

Michael is the son of Kate and Charles Kelpie.

Also among the awards was Dowtown Abbey, which bowed out at Christmas.

The final series of Downton Abbey was named best drama beating shows like Doctor Who, Casualty and ITV’s Broadchurch.

The Great British Bake Off won the best challenge award.
