New Historical Waterside Walking Tours

A new guided walking tour of the Waterside area of Derry starts next week. Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership is piloting the guided '˜Historic Waterside Walking Tour' during the months of August and September with the aim of promoting the Waterside as a tourist destination.

The one hour walking tour, which will leave from the Guildhall every Wednesday and Thursday at 11am will include the Peace Bridge incorporating the history of the Craigavon Bridge, Ebrington Square, Clooney Terrace, Glendermott Road -including a stop at the city’s former Workhouse - the Waterside Theatre and the Bond Street Murals finishing back at Ebrington Square.

“We are aiming to promote the Waterside as a tourist destination showcasing the many historic sites and stories that can be found in the Waterside,” explained Alison Wallace, Strategy Manager, Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership. “The initiative is funded by Department for Communities which included funding for a feasibility study, Walk Guide training and marketing. We hope to build on this year’s pilot by continuing the Tours next summer.”
