Ms. Mullan pointed out that ‘there have been several serious collisions and, unfortunately, last year, a young man lost his life.’

She asked for a review of the location with a view to introducing additional protections for road users and pedestrians.

Ms. Mallon replied: “I thank the Member for raising this very important issue. I will commit to discussing the matter with my officials, asking them to provide you with an update on what actions we can take and making sure that that gets to you at the earliest opportunity.”

Ms. Mullan told the ‘Journal’ she was concerned that further injuries or fatalities could occur at the sharp bend on the Northland Road.

“There have been a number of serious collisions at this particular junction, one of which sadly resulted in the death of a driver.

“Given the nature of these incidents where vehicles left the road and crossed the pavements, there is genuine concern that pedestrians could be seriously injured.

“I would urge the Department for Infrastructure to undertake a review of the location with a view of introducing additional protection for road users and pedestrians.”
