Paul McCauley's mother passes away after illness

The death has taken place of Cathy McCauley, the mother of Derry sectarian attack victim Paul McCauley.

It’s understood Mrs McCauley died on Tuesday after a long illness.

Her 38 year-old son passed away in a care unit last summer, nine years after he was attacked by a mob at a barbecue in the Waterside. He never regained consciousness after the attack.

Only one person has ever been convicted over the attack, although up to 15 people are believed to have been involved.

Mrs. McCauely’s funeral will take place on Friday morning at St. Columb’s Church, Chapel Road at 10a.m.
