Fear not! There’s so many fun things to do with all the family this halloween that won’t break the bank, you can enjoy the halloween festival season in Derry without a worry.
5. Monster Making in the CCA
To celebrate Halloween 2022 CCA invites illustrator Grace Fairley to lead a MONSTER MAKING workshop suitable for all ages. Have you ever dreamed of creating your own weird and wonderful friend? They might have four arms, be green and furry, or have two heads! If you have, visit the monster making workshop. You will be using a broad range of materials including card, paint, wool, felt and pipe cleaners to make your own funky lil creature! Drop into into CCA 6pm–8pm, Friday 28 and 1pm–4pm Saturday 29 October 2022. No booking is necessary for this free workshop. The gallery will also open until 9pm on 28–29 October, and 6–9pm on 30 October, giving you the chance to see the current exhibition. Workshop 6–8pm 28 October, gallery open until 9pm. 6. Halloween Hay Trail
The amazing Halloween Hay Trail will return from 14-31 October with locations across the entire district. Visitors and locals can expect to see some scary ghosties and ghouls as well as the family favourites such as SpongeBob Square pants, Super Mario and the Minions. Among the locations currently in the trail include: Bready, Donemana, Glenmornan, Artigarvan, Ballymagorry, Strabane and Castlederg. 7. The City of Derry International Choir Festival
City of Derry International Choir Festival takes place October 19-23. Some of the events are ticketed but there is a whole host of other, free events. 40 choirs will be taking part in 60 performances in venues across the Northwest throughout festival week, all sponsored by Alchemy. 8. Halloween at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin
A Samhain workshop with Mary Delargy. Hear about the true origins of Samhain and how modern transatlantic traditions are adaptions of our Celtic nuances. Make a Seán na Gealaí, (turnip lantern), píog úlla, (apple pie) and tell stories from your youth. This event is free, open to adults. In the Old Church carpark, there will be a traditional Samhain bonfire, with spooky storytelling of Old Celtic mythology and traditions.
