Although things are improving, there aren’t many places which are disability friendly and offer toilets, places to rest and flat, smooth terrain but the ‘Journal’ has compiled a list of some of the best places for a summer outing.

9. Kilfennan Valley Park
Kilfennan Valley Park is located, as the name suggests, in the Kilfennan area of the Waterside. Spanning from the Crescent link to the Rossdowney Road, the expansive park has wide, smooth paths snaking between large open planes as well as more sheltered areas under trees. There are multiple entry points along the path from each of the nearby roads and housing estates with parking available at the play park at Sperrin Park, including two disabled bays and bike racks. If entering from this area, beware that the path slopes downwards, which may be tricky for some people who struggle with hills. There are several hills throughout the park which go up and down again which, again, could prove tricky for some. There are a number of benches throughout the park, although some can be quite far away from each other. There are no public toilets here. Photo: none
