80 great pictures from Derry and Donegal back in December 1974

Here we present photos of people and places from the Derry Journal archive of 50 years ago back in December 1974 when St Brigid’s Church in Carnhill officially opened, Uncle Bulgaria from The Wombles and Rag Day came to town and there were festive parties and celebrations across the north west.

The North West of Ireland Railway Society have acquired a former Donegal Railways Engine named Columbkille (formerly named 'Killbegs') for their museum. Work is under way to lay a two mile track over the old Donegal route along the Foyle and this train will be used to travel along it. This train was built in Manchester in 1907. Photo: DJ
