Lorraine Carey of Twisted Willow in Buncrana was stripping out the piece of furniture earlier this month when she felt something underneath lining in a drawer.

Upon investigating further, she pulled out a number of photos or headshots which featured a man in different poses.

The photographs were taken in Austins of Derry, but they do not have a date on them.

Lorraine told the Journal the piece of furniture had been in her workshop for quite a while and she decided to restore it during lockdown. She would ‘love’ to find out the identity of the man in the photos and return them.

“Because I’ve had the piece so long, I’m not sure whether it was bought in Derry or Buncrana. I thought, with lockdown, I might as well work my way through it and restore it.

“It has sealed lining and as I was pulling it out, I felt something under it. Then, I pulled out the photos. While they don’t have a date, I think they look very 50s or 60s. Apparently there were quite a few of these type of photos - 48s - done in Austins. I think they were like proofs and then you got whatever you wanted enlarged.”

Lorraine, who opens Twisted Willow Interiors to the public on a Saturday and advertises the pieces she upcycles and restores on her Facebook page, posted the photos on social media. However, despite a number of shares, the man has not been identified as yet.

Lorraine said she believes the photographs were ‘obviously cherished’ by whoever stored them so carefully and she hopes someone will recognise the gentleman.

If you think you know him or can identify him, you can contact Lorraine via the Twisted Willow Facebook page or email [email protected]
