Ciara Ferguson: Inclusion of Derry-Portadown line in prioritisation strategy ‘hugely positive’
Sinn Féin MLA Ciara Ferguson has welcomed the announcement that the Derry to Portadown rail line, including a line on to Letterkenny has been included in the Rail Project Prioritisation Strategy.
The Foyle MLA said: "The All Island Rail Review highlights that the north west was one of the areas worst affected by rail closures in the mid-twentieth century.
"It is therefore hugely positive that the Derry-Portadown rail line, including a line to Letterkenny, has been included in the prioritisation strategy.
“This further demonstrates the Executive's commitment to regional balance and improving connectivity for the north west.

“I want to commend Minister Kimmins on this announcement and I look forward to working with her and the department to advance these projects in the future."
The Derry MLA was speaking after the new Rail Project Prioritisation Strategy (RPPS) said planning approval for a resurrected Derry to Portadown rail link with an onward line to Letterkenny should be secured within the next ten years as a priority.
