COVID positive rates now equivalent to one in 20 people in Derry & Strabane

As of yesterday 8,642 had tested positive for coronavirus in the local Council area since the pandemic started, while figures of actual cases could be much higher given some people will never have had symptoms and as a result wouldn’t have been tested.

Hide AdThe daily briefing for the north today revealed a further 2,103 positive cases across the region, making it the highest NI daily total since testing began back in March, with six additional deaths.
Of these new cases, 214 new positive tests were confirmed for Derry & Strabane in the 24 hours to September 29.
In total the figures show a sharp rise over the last week with 768 new cases reported in Derry & Strabane over the past seven days, compared to 352 cases the week before.
In terms of a breakdown of these new lab tests in the city and district over the week to December 29, 105 children and teenagers have tested positive along with 337 young people aged 20 to 39; 226 people aged 40-59; 87 people aged 6-19 and a further 13 people aged 80 and over.
To date there have been 93 COVID-related deaths reported by the Department of Health in Derry & Strabane.
