Scores of local people from the Strathfoyle and adjoining areas came along to show their support, have a coffee and a cream bun and enjoy the warm, pleasant surroundings of the library on what was a wet morning.
An impressive total of £545 was once again raised as a result of the fundraising event and speaking after the event, Bridgeen Rutherford, Enagh Press Officer, said the group were delighted with the support shown by the local community and businesses.
“Today is testament to the continued huge support we get as a group from the local community, businesses and schools.
“In our tenth year now supporting this worthwhile cause, everyone mucks in, making sandwiches, apple cakes, tarts and more. And, a lot of us in the group aren’t getting younger, so it’s really appreciated to see the support we continue to receive.”
Also speaking at Tuesday’s event, the Mayor, Grace Ui Niallais had nothing but praise for the coffee morning and how well run it was involving all the local community.
“I had a lovely morning at the Enagh Seniors Macmillan Coffee Morning in Strathfoyle.
“I was genuinely impressed to see the wide range of age groups in attendance to support this worthwhile cause.
“Cancer care is a subject close to all our hearts and it is important that we keep supporting MacMillan in the crucial work they do to help all those affected by a cancer diagnosis.
“Congratulations to Bridgeen, Mary, Robert and all involved with the group and thanks to everyone at Strathfoyle Library for their continued support in hosting community events.”
Concluding, Mrs. Rutherford said: “Thank you once again to our lovely Mayor for attending, and hopefully this is just one of a number of events our group will be having before the year is out.”
