Drive 105 Community radio was launched in January 2009 and is a not for profit charity which has trained almost 500 people on skills. It broadcasts 24 hours per day.

The service is run entirely by volunteers and helps local charities, community groups, the arts, businesses, council, tourism and leisure and disability organisations, sport and political organisations promote and advertise their work.

Presenter Felix Healy said: “Today with everyone practicing social distancing due to COVID-19, Drive 105’s role has become even more essential. The feedback we have been receiving from our listeners is that Drive 105 has been an essential service in helping them cope and reduce that sense of isolation.”

The station relied on revenue generated from advertising and donations by local businesses but due to the lockdown this income stream has all but ceased. Felix said: “There are minimum costs associated with maintaining this essential service which are unavoidable. Without financial support, Drive 105 will not be able to continue providing this essential service.”

On Thursday, local entertainers Una Dunne & Meadbh McGinley, Colum Mc Laughlin, Dale Thomas, William & Caitlin and Felix Healy with Yvonne Holmes will perform live via the ‘Drive Live’ Facebook page and listeners can donate through www.paypal.me/Drive105fm
