Here's all the key dates for Christmas in Derry

The dust has just about settled after the Halloween celebrations but it’s never too early to start planning for Christmas.

The ‘Journal’ can reveal that the Christmas lights will be switched on on Sunday, November 27 at 6pm. Santa will be the guest of honour on a magical procession through the streets of Derry and Strabane, switching on the Christmas lights as he passes by. The processions will feature a number of festive characters and beautiful bespoke Christmas themed mobile installations.​

The Christmas Craft Fair will take place on Friday, November 25 to Sunday, November 27. The Craft Fair will showcase the best of businesses from the North West and will have extended opening hours on Friday to cater to Black Friday shoppers. It will feature close to 40 high end craft producers and exhibitors and is expected to attract large numbers keen to source that special gift or purchase for Christmas. The Guildhall's Main Hall will provide an ornate backdrop for a wide range of contemporary and traditional craft stalls featuring craft design makers and artisan food producers from across Ireland.

The Walled City Market will take place on Saturday, December 3 at the Guildhall Square while the Winterland Market will take place on Friday, December 16 - Sunday, December 18 offering unique handmade crafts, mouth-watering local artisan food and scrumptious, tasty treats.

The Mayor’s Christmas Tea Dance will take place on Wednesday, December 7 and the Mayor’s Magical Christmas Experience will be on Friday 9 - Sunday 11 December. Details of these events are expected in the future.
