Hutton calls for permanent solution to flooding in Derry’s Little Diamond and Creggan Street
Sinn Féin Moor Councillor Aisling Hutton has called for a permanent solution to flooding in a laneway behind homes in Little Diamond and Creggan Street which repeatedly floods during periods of heavy rainfall.
Councillor Hutton said: "I have written to the statutory agencies, including NI Water, the Housing Executive and the Department for Infrastructure calling for a multi agency approach aimed at finding a lasting solution to flooding in the laneway behind homes in Little Diamond and Creggan Street.
“This is not a one-off issue. There have been several serious flooding incidents over the past decade, affecting laneways, back gardens and, in some cases, entering people's homes.
“During heavy rain, water runs from Marlborough Terrace down into the laneway with nowhere to drain, leaving residents' properties at risk. Only recently I had to provide sandbags to help residents protect their homes. People should not have to live with that worry every time there is heavy rainfall."
