Immediate COVID testing in all residential care homes a must - Anderson

Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has called for immediate COVID-19 testing in all residential and care homes across the north to protect the most vulnerable.

The Foyle MLA said: “The death of a resident of a care home in Derry is tragic and my thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of this person and all those who have sadly lost their lives.

“This is an extremely worrying time for anyone with relatives in residential and care homes.

“It is essential that an immediate programme of COVID-19 testing is carried out in all care homes and residential homes across the north in order to protest the most vulnerable in our society.”

Ms. Anderson said the World Health Organisation has been clear on the importance of testing as part of the fightback.

“It is only through widespread testing that the scale of the spread of the virus will be known,” she said.

“We now need to see this roll out of testing getting underway as a matter of urgency in order to protect residents and staff of residential and care homes.”
