With over 50 years of collective service to Derry Credit Union, two senior and long-serving staff members were honoured at a special dinner in the Bishop’s Gate Hotel on Tuesday last.

Chief Executive Officer Joan Gallagher and Education and Training Officer Mary Crumley were celebrated with the DCU President, Delma Boggs describing the service that both ladies have given to Derry and the local community as something that might never be seen again.

In attendance at Tuesday’s function were president of the Irish League of Credit Unions, Brendan Jenkins, vice president Patricia Doherty, Derry Credit Union president Delma Boggs, Derry Credit Union board of directors, staff and family members.

The two retirees were presented with glass crystal vases and bouquets of flowers with speeches from both ILCU and DCU presidents, before a sumptuous dinner was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Addressing the function, Delma Boggs, President, Derry Credit Union said: ‘With over 50 years of combined service, our esteemed colleagues Joan and Mary have been the heart and soul of Derry Credit Union. Their innovative leadership has not only built a stronger institution but a more connected community, leaving a legacy of empowerment and integrity that will inspire and impact us for generations to come in Derry and beyond.’

Ms. Boggs also paid a special tribute to long-term board member Leo Simpson who has held the post of director for fifty years.

"Indeed, we are also very proud of our very own Leo Simpson who was presented with a special medal from the Irish League of Credit Unions here tonight. This is a truly remarkable achievement for Leo and, of course, for Derry Credit Union.”

The two ladies addressed the attendance thanking everyone for their kind wishes and both stating that they were looking forward to their retirements but would also keep all at Derry Credit Union ‘close to their hearts.’
