Neighbours, friends and relatives of the two sisters gathered at Culdaff Gardens, where Annette McDaid lived - just round the corner from Kitty, who lived at the McDaid family home on Rinmore Drive - as a bench was unveiled in Annette’s honour. Annette was affectionately known as ‘the Queen of Culdaff Gardens’ and the bench was painted in her favourite colour, purple.
Annette had been planning a fundraiser for Marie Curie in memory of her younger sister Kitty, who sadly passed away just nine months earlier in January. However Annette sadly died in September after a long battle with cancer and her niece, Fiona McDaid, and close friends and neighbours, Shannon Canning and Emily Rooney, decided to honour her wishes and also to create the memorial to her.
The coffee morning event in both Kitty and Annette’s memory was held afterwards at Creggan Community Collective's An Cró Mór centre in Cromore Gardens on Saturday.
